The Office of Racial Equity works across all three branches of State government to implement meaningful change that will advance equity for Vermont’s residents and visitors. For this reason, a significant portion of the Office's work revolves around policy development, rulemaking, and legislation.
This work is inextricably linked to the Office’s work on education and training, because the peers and collaborators with whom we work to craft inclusive policy must first have a shared understanding of how equity (or inequity) are embedded in the policy work they do.
The Office has participated in large and small projects that have created or changed state policy in ways that affect all residents and visitors of the state. Some of these policy changes occur behind the scenes, such as updates to human resources and personnel policies for state employees, or major legislation with large budgets and timelines attached.
